Saleem Janbart was born in Aleppo in 1886 and worked as a private businessman since his early teens. He helped co-found the Damascus and Aleppo Chamber of Commerce, rising to become president of the Aleppo Chamber in the 1930s. He also became an MP for Aleppo, and served as Minister of Public Works under President Mohammad Ali al-Abed in 1933-1934, and Minister of Economy under President Hashem al-Atasi in 1939. He died in Aleppo shortly after the French evacuation in 1952 at the age of 66.
