The list was published in the Islamic daily, al-Manar on July 7, 1947. Among those supported by the Muslim scholars of Damascus were: the judge Mohammad Akbik, the National Bloc candidate Zaki al-Khatib, Mohammad Mubarak of the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood, Abdul Hamid al-Tabba of the Islamic al-Gharra Society, Ahmad Mazhar al-Azma of the Islamic Urban Society, the Kurdish MP and future minister Ali Buzzo, the landowner Nuri al-Ibish, publisher of al-Nidal newspaper Sami Kabbara, the scholars Ali al-Tantawi and Subhi al-Khatib, in addition to Aref Tarakji, and Said Kaylani. As for non-Muslims, they supported Prime Minister Fares al-Khury (Protestant), Constantine Mensi (Greek Orthodox), Farid Arsalanian (Armenian), Elias Dummar (Roman Catholix), and Wahid Mezrahi (Jew).
